Just off Trade Street in Matthews, The Loyalist Market describes itself as “a cut-to-order cheese and charcuterie shop with a focus on local and regional cheesemakers.”

In case you didn’t know, charcuterie is the French word that describes the branch of cooking that involves cold prepared meats.

Although there is plenty of cheese, meat and a wide selection of beers and wines, I came to The Loyalist to eat a lunch, so I looked up their menu online (to save on the environment and help prevent Covid, they request that you look at the menu online. Single use menus are available for people who opt not to bring the phone distraction).

I decided on a Reuben sandwich and a salad.

It was served on a tray that felt rather fitting for a cheese shop/ charcuterie.

And the meal itself was worth the name Reuben (one of my favorite sandwiches growing up).

Well, that meal didn’t last long.

The salad was a delightfully refreshing side to go with the rich flavors of the Reuben sandwich and the homemade dressing was delicious.

From this experience, I can highly recommend The Loyalist Market as a place to enjoy good food, the friendly atmosphere of Matthews, and a great place to try something new!
